The graphical user interface (GUI) of a an application like WaveLab is made from thousands of small pieces. Some of them are standard UI elements like buttons and knobs, tons of little icons, musical data in the arrangement and editors, plug-in windows, and a lot of text. To display all these elements properly on today’s high-resolution UHD 4K/5K/Retina displays, operating systems as well as applications have to be able to render the GUI at different scaling factors. This capability is called HiDPI support.
WaveLab Pro 9.5 is the first WaveLab version with HiDPI support. However, there are some points to keep in mind:
- The main application supports HiDPI natively on Mac and Windows while the internal plug-in set still is restricted to lower resolutions. The plug-ins are scaled to the correct size, but look blurry.
- 3rd party plug-in developers are responsible for high resolution support on their own.
macOS: 3rd party plug-ins are scaled if they do not support high resolutions (blurry).
Windows: Without high resolution support, the plug-ins might appear very small. This can be avoided by disabling HiDPI support for WaveLab (right-click on WaveLabPro_9_5.exe or the application’s shortcut > Properties > Compatibility). However, WaveLab itself will then occur blurred. - Windows only: If the general display scaling (Settings > Display > Scale and layout) is set to 250% or higher, parts of WaveLab's GUI will be out of the displayed area. This is an issue of the initial WaveLab 9.5.10 version and will be fixed in one of the following maintenance updates.
- If many windows in WaveLab are opened, level meters may appear sluggish. In this case, please close unneeded windows.
