Problem
Dorico 4 hangs on launch. In the start screen, the following message is being displayed indefinitely:
"Audio engine: Waiting for connection"
Background
A possible reason are incompatible components that have been installed earlier in Steinberg's Application Support folder.
Solution
Please select your operating system.
Solution for macOS
- Restart your computer to make sure no Dorico 4 process is still running.
- Go to /Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Components/
A possible way: In Finder, select "Go to Folder..." from the "Go" menu, enter or paste the path and hit "Enter". - If present, remove the following files from the "Components" folder:
- Eucon[version].bundle
- Groove Agent SE.vst3
You can, for example, store them on the Desktop to create a backup.
Now it should be possible to start Dorico 4.
If you need to use Groove Agent SE, please install the latest version via Steinberg Download Assistant.
Solution for Windows
The problem can also be caused by an outdated Windows 10 installation. If the error occurs even though you are running an up-to-date Windows 10 (21H2 or newer) or Windows 11, please follow the steps below:
- Restart your computer to make sure no Dorico 4 process is still running.
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Shared Components
- If applicable, remove the following components:
- euconadapter[version].dll
- "Groove Agent SE" folder
You can, for example, store them on the Desktop to create a backup.
Now it should be possible to start Dorico 4.
If you need to use Groove Agent SE, please install the latest version via Steinberg Download Assistant.
