Since December 17, 2025, Etude has been available as a stand-alone app for iPhone and iPad, bringing this high-quality virtual piano instrument to mobile devices. As an AUv3 plug-in, Etude is suitable for use with any compatible DAW, including Cubasis, Logic Pro for iPad, AUM, and GarageBand.
The Etude sounds are also included with Dorico for iPad if you have an active monthly or annual subscription or if you have the Lifetime Unlock in-app purchase.
Therefore, Dorico for iPad users don’t need to purchase Etude for iPhone and iPad. However, Dorico for iPad users should be aware that:
- Etude has no user interface within Dorico for iPad: when Etude is available, Dorico automatically loads its sound when you add a piano instrument to your project.
- The Etude sounds included with Dorico for iPad cannot be used in any other app.
- The stand-alone Etude app can be used as an AUv3 plug-in within Dorico for iPad (with active subscription or Lifetime Unlock), but Dorico for iPad cannot use the AUv3 version in the same fully automatic way that it can use the built-in Etude sounds:
- When using the built-in Etude sounds, Dorico for iPad automatically loads them and also assigns the appropriate expression map. This ensures that articulations and dynamics are all played back as accurately as possible without any intervention from you.
- By contrast, if you use the AUv3 plug-in within Dorico for iPad, you have to manually load it, assign it to the piano instrument in Play mode yourself, and assign the right expression map.
