Problem
The current version of Steinberg Library Manager displays the following error when attempting to install VST Sound content on systems with System Integrity Protection (SIP) disabled:
"Steinberg Library Manager privileged helper has wrong version (-1,-1)"
Background
The Steinberg Library Manager uses a privileged helper to perform system-level operations, including installing and managing shared VST Sound content. The current version of Library Manager also requires certain macOS security protections provided by SIP to be enabled in order to validate and use its privileged helper correctly.
Please note: Configurations in which SIP has been disabled or modified, including systems running OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP), are not supported configurations. Such configurations modify the standard macOS security and system environment and are outside the configuration supported by Apple.
It's required to use a standard, Apple-supported macOS configuration when using Steinberg applications! Non-standard configurations are unsupported, and application behavior in them cannot be guaranteed.
Solution
We are aware of an issue affecting systems with disabled SIP and are investigating it.
In the meantime, if possible, re-enable SIP by following these steps:
- Restart your Mac in Recovery mode.
- Open Terminal from the Utilities menu.
- Run the command
csrutil enable. - Restart your Mac.
The Steinberg Library Manager should then be able to validate its privileged helper and perform the required installation and management operations.
Please note: Users running OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) cannot enable SIP, as OCLP requires it to remain disabled for the patched system to function. We do not currently have a solution or workaround for these configurations.
