DAWproject: Exchange Cubasis projects with Cubase and other DAWs

The DAWproject file format allows you to exchange Cubasis projects on iPhone, iPad, smartphones, and tablets with Cubase on Mac and Windows. Additionally, this feature is available for users of Bitwig Studio, and PreSonus Studio One.

Requirements

To exchange projects using DAWproject, you need:

  • Cubasis 3.7.5 or newer
  • another program supporting DAWproject, for example:
    • any Cubase 15 version (Pro, Artist, Elements, AI, or LE)
    • Cubase Pro 14.0.20 or Cubase Artist Pro 14.0.20 (or newer)

Using DAWproject with Cubasis, Cubase, and other supported DAWs

When exchanging projects via DAWproject, Cubasis will import and export the following features:

  • Instrument, audio, effect and group tracks (name, color, volume, pan, mute, solo, notepad)
  • Events (name, color, mute, fades in & out)
  • Audio event gain (reduction only)
  • Audio event transpose (pitch-shift)
  • Audio event time-stretch (results may vary, still work in progress)
  • MIDI notes, CC, pitch-bend, aftertouch, program change
  • Insert and send effects
    • DAWproject Built-in Devices (Generic EQ, Generic Compressor, Generic Gate, Generic Limiter)
    • RoomWorks SE is mapped to the RoomWorks SE VST3 plugin
    • Some Cubasis effects are mapped to VST3 plugins (Cubase only)
  • Instrument plugins:
    • HALion Sonic Selection (IAP), FM Classics (IAP), Neo FM (IAP), LoFi Piano and Iconica Sketch
      for iPhone/iPad are mapped to the HALion Sonic VST3 plugin in other DAWs
    • Micrologue is mapped to Retrologue
    • Some Microsonic and MiniSampler factory presets are mapped to HALion Sonic VST3
      (Cubase only)
  • Tempo track
  • Signature track

Limitations

The following features might be added later:

  • Time-stretch (implemented in Cubasis 3.7.5, but results may vary)
  • Automation
  • Multiple outputs

The following features are not supported:

  • Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio or Clap plug-ins
  • Markers (cycle locators are not supported by the format)
  • Folder tracks
  • MiniSampler user preset export
  • MIDI effects
  • Video
  • Scenes

Known issues with desktop DAWs

Cubase 14.0.20

(might be improved in future updates)

  • Imported audio files sometimes play at a wrong speed due to inconsistent sample rates.
    Workaround: Adjust the project's sample rate to match the sample rate of all audio files, or adjust the sample rate of all audio files to match the project’s sample rate.
  • DAWproject Built-in Devices (Generic EQ, Generic Compressor, Generic Gate, Generic Limiter) are only supported since Cubase 14.0.30. 
  • MIDI CC, pitch-bend and similar are not supported
  • Audio event time-stretch, pitch-shift and gain are not supported
  • Tempo track is not supported
  • Notepad text is not supported
  • Some Microsonic and MiniSampler "AM" kit presets in Cubasis result in an empty Groove Agent instance in Cubase.

Bitwig Studio 5.3.2

  • Notepad text is not supported

Studio One 7.1.1

  • Audio files are not included in the DAWproject file unless the user selects "Copy external files" from the "Song" menu to make them part of the project before saving the DAWproject file.
  • Audio event pitch-shift and gain is not supported
  • Notepad text is not supported
