Problem
Sending larger MIDI messages (MIDI system exclusive messages, SysEx) via a Steinberg UR-C interface to connected devices fails due to a time-out error.
Background
The problem only occurs if MIDI messages larger than 1024 bytes are sent via the MIDI OUT port of a UR-C that uses firmware V3.0.
Workaround
The following steps describe how to restore firmware V2.01, with which the issue does not occur. Unfortunately, the new functions of firmware V3.0 can no longer be used after reverting to the older firmware.
⚠️ Please follow the detailed instructions in the Steinberg TOOLS Software Installation Guide thoroughly when uninstalling and installing the UR-C software. The UR-C must not be connected during step 1 and 2. Connect the device only after you've installed V2.1.0 (macOS) / V2.0.1 (Windows), right before starting the dspMixFx UR-C software in step 3.
- Uninstall Steinberg UR-C Applications V3.0.
- Install TOOLS for UR-C V2.1.0 (macOS) or V2.0.1 (Windows).
⬇ UR-C download page (Please scroll down to OLDER UR-C DOWNLOADS.) - Start dspMixFx UR-C.
- Click on the gear symbol in the upper right to open the setup page.
- Under OTHER / Firmware, click on Update to start the FIRMWARE UPDATER.
- In the FIRMWARE UPDATER dialog, click START to revert the firmware from V3.00 to V2.01.
Solution
We are working on a firmware update that allows larger MIDI messages to be sent again.
