Cubase 11: Instruments resp. tracks in project templates cannot be played back

Problem

Instruments resp. tracks in Cubase 11 projects based on a project templates cannot be played back and seem to be muted. Error messages might appear reporting missing content (audio files, presets).

Background

There are multiple components of Cubase 11 available in the Steinberg Download Assistant. Some project templates that come with the Cubase 11 main application rely on additional content that needs to be installed separately. If this content is missing, some instruments included in project templates cannot be loaded correctly. 

Solution

Please open the Steinberg Download Assistant on your system. 

Open the "Cubase" category, select your Cubase 11 version and download and install the following components:  

  • Groove Agent SE 5.0.30 - Instrument (recommended)
  • Groove Agent SE 5 - Content (recommended)
  • HALion Sonic SE 3.4.10 - Instrument (recommended)
  • HALion SE 3 - Content (recommended)

Afterwards, the project templates can be used without limitation.
